Author Exclusive Interview: Joanna Davidson Politano
Author of The Curious Inheritance of Blakely House
Meet Joanna!
What has inspired you to become a writer?
Stories have the ability to change our minds. I learned that when I was a quiet kid in grade school and I wrote my first stories. I couldn't stand up to bullies, but I wrote the bullied kids into stories and gave them super powers. Those stories leaked out--most of them, anyway--and they were wonderfully disruptive!
Did you always know you wanted to be an author?
I've always loved books, and especially hearing people's stories! I suppose it was a natural step to then record those stories in an engaging way. I don't think I ever thought it was possible, though--more of a childhood dream.
What is your latest book about?
My latest book, The Curious Inheritance of Blakely House, was a work of collaboration with my brilliant husband, who's an engineer. I dabbled in clockworks and gears with this book, creating this massive house full of odd, unfinished gadgets. It's a bit of an Alice in Wonderland journey, and the heroine--brilliant but disorganized--was incredibly fun to write! It became an adventure story mixed with a double-love story.
